According to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), 2107 new companies have been registered this month, raising the total number of companies to 154,093. Out of these, 99% were registered online, and 140 were registered from overseas. Subsequently, 63% of the newly registered companies were private limited companies, 33% were single-member companies, 3% were public unlisted companies, not-for-profit associations, and limited liability partnerships (LLP). In addition, the total market capitalization of the new companies stood at Rs 2.7 billion.

The construction and the real estate sector posted the highest growth in the number of newly registered companies (369), followed by trading companies (302) and information technology (270). Besides these sectors, the services sector also posted growth with 173 new incorporations, e-commerce with 98 new companies, the food and beverage industry at 76, and education with 67 new companies.

The increase in the number of newly registered real estate companies can be attributed to several reasons. A construction amnesty scheme introduced in April last year was key to increasing economic activity and incorporations in the sector. In addition, the State Bank’s continued emphasis on housing finance and increasing homeownership under the Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar Scheme incentivized incorporations in the sector.
