Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women globally. Pakistan has some of the highest incidence rates of breast cancer amongst Asian countries. According to WHO, one in nine women faces the risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
Lack of awareness regarding the symptoms contributes to low rates of early detection and diagnosis of cancer. As a result, it is diagnosed at a very late stage, reducing the chances of survival. Medical experts claim that the key to successful treatment for breast cancer is early detection and diagnosis. This is only possible through education and awareness of the disease and its early symptoms.
Breast cancer awareness month is observed in October to raise public awareness in girls and women as it can help in the early detection and diagnosis of this fatal disease.
