To meet the long-held demands of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), the federal government has approved the digital policy for newspaper websites. The announcement was made by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry.

Under the new policy, advertisements will be made digitally, while transparency will be ensured. The government will separately issue advertisements to news websites, and Rs1 billion will be issued for this purpose. Moreover, any news site actively running for more than six months will be considered eligible for advertisements. The cybersecurity wing of the government will be in charge of monitoring these websites and their activity.
