Government to Launch Automated Domicile System

A domicile certificate is an essential document for a person who is an inhabitant or permanent resident of the state. The procedure to get a Domicile certificate is quite long and strenuous. Usually, to make this certificate, applicants need to visit the district court where they can get the form. The form contains requisite details of the applicant like Name, Father Name, Date, age, Tehsil, District etc., with a fee challan and an affidavit from parents in proof of residence. The form is submitted to the concerned officer for examination in the DC office with several attested documents (attested copy of CNIC, parents CNIC, Copy of matric Certificate etc. After review, the case is put forward for the commissioner’s signature, who issued the certificate after getting verification done from patwari and the Police station. After all this effort, applicants still need to wait 5-7 working days to get the certificate.

The government has launched an online domicile system to make this process hassle-free. There will be one window operation facility in the system for issuing the certificate on the same day on which they applied after submitting all the required documents. With this system, there will be no need to wait extra days to get the certificate. Furthermore, this system will make the process efficient and user-friendly with zero chances of duplication or fake domicile issuance. One of the best advantages of this automated system is maintaining verification, record-keeping, and a proper backup.

Earlier, the government of Punjab also developed a fully automated system for generating and managing domiciles. This system has been operational since 2007. The objective of this system is to enable transparent and quick delivery of computerised domiciles and provide a mechanism to check for duplicate issuance. This system has been implemented in 34 districts, and the number of domiciles in record stands at 3,947,714, and those verified using the system are 597,656.
