RDA to prepare 30 years master plan for Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi is one of the populous cities of Pakistan and has immense importance in contributing to the country’s local economic development. However, the city has not got a proper master plan according to which development in the metropolitan could proceed. Due to the absence of a master plan, civic bodies in the city and cantonment areas carried out different works and had different rules and regulations.

In the absence of a city master plan, local administration was also facing problems to handle issues of metropolitan planning and traffic engineering. In addition, Rawalpindi did not have a policy regarding the plantation of trees and safeguarding green spaces. Tree cutting and usurping green belts by the land mafia have occupied many productive lands that could be used for development purposes.

To cope with all these issues, the city needs a proper planning mechanism that would proceed with the development projects according to proper planning. Also, the authorities need to hire town planning consultants to prepare a proper plan to carry one development project according to the laws and regulations.

In this regard, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has ordered the concerned authorities to prepare a 30 years master plan for the garrison city. As per the plan, the authorities are directed to review housing schemes and address the traffic issues in the city. Furthermore, recommendations have been given for devising a policy regarding the promotion of green belts and safeguarding green spaces in the city.

Besides this, the plan will work for the promotion of better water and sanitation facilities for the locals. In this regard, more water supply projects will be launched to mitigate the water crisis of the city. Earlier, a master plan was prepared for the metropolitan but failed to work properly. Hence, the government is making every possible effort to prepare this new plan and solve the problems of the general public.
