The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to make the Srinagar Highway a signal-free corridor. To ensure the easy flow of traffic, the city administration along with local government authorities plans to make the area signal-free by constructing three underpasses. It was a much-needed step as the majority of the motorists face massive traffic congestion in various locations including the G-10 and G-11 signal.
According to the CDA chairman, as soon as the PC-1 is submitted to the planning commission, the groundwork for the project will begin. Integrating underpasses into the existing road infrastructure is cost-efficient compared to constructing interchanges. The cost-efficient underpass can help save funds for the public bus service project as well. The committee will decide which option they will opt for to make the highway a signal-free corridor. The CDA official engineering wing claims that three interchanges or underpasses will be required to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on one of the busiest highways of the twin cities. The facilities are expected to be built at the junction of 10th avenue followed by junctions at the 11th and 12th avenue.
The Srinagar highway starts from Murree Road (Kashmir Chowk) and ends near Tarnol. The growth in housing societies, educational institutions and health facilities in the adjoining areas led to the massive development making the highway one of the busiest in the twin cities. By integrating a signal-free corridor, the traffic flow can be significantly eased.
