World Teachers Day is celebrated on the 5th of October to appreciate the contribution of teachers in the education system and their role in making the world a better place.

Under the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, quality education for all, teachers play a significant role in leading the collective efforts of the society to increase literacy and education.

With a population of 220 million, Pakistan has only 200,000 primary, middle and secondary schools with only 600,000 teachers catering to 25 million students. Although Pakistan continues to achieve high literacy levels, especially for primary and secondary levels, a dearth of teachers, schools, resources and planning on the part of the government, continues to impede chances of hosting a properly educated population.

Iqbal Institute of Policy Studies (IIPS) pays tribute to the teachers of Pakistan and their role in educating the students of this country.
