The Board of Directors of the Punjab Skills Development Authority (PSDA) approved the proposed amendment draft of the PSDA act 2019. The act’s approval was given in the fourth meeting of the Board of Directors. The authority of the meeting was given to the Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mian Aslam Iqbal, at the PSDA office.

The Punjab Skills Development Authority was established to promote and regulate the technical education and vocational training sector in Punjab. The vision of PSDA is to effectively regulate and manage the TVET sector to produce a skilled workforce and narrow the existing gap between demand and supply of skills in a growing economy.

The functions of this act are to register and regulate public and private institutions; regulate training standards for teachers and evaluators; implement national policies and standards about technical education and vocational training; validate the conformity of the curricula with national standards and their relevance to specific level descriptors etc.

The government has established the first Skill Technology Park over 120 Kanal in the TEVTA secretariat. Every year, 220 thousand students are trained in 403 TEVTA institutes. Punjab’s first skill mapping project is successfully moving forward in collaboration with urban units. More than one hundred thousand youth have been given free skill education under CM Hunarmand Program to employ needy youth.

The Punjab Skill Development Program has developed over 30 competency-based learning assessments in priority sectors and trained 16,000 graduates. Twelve public-private agreements were signed with industry partners for market-based skills training. More than 800 students were trained—increased access in market-relevant trades offered by public and private sector training providers, enrolling 52,000 students.
