Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms, and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, announced development plans for the rural areas of Islamabad. According to the minister, the government will form an autonomous local government body that will facilitate the administration in reducing the gap between rural and urban areas. The rural areas of Islamabad constitute almost half the area of the entire district. Under the rural transformation plan, around 50 to 55% of the rural areas of Islamabad will be developed based on the sector pattern.
In addition, administrative authorities will be shifted from the Capital Development Authorities (CDA) to Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and the latter will be given full administrative control. CDA’s authority will be limited to regulatory matters.
