After a continuous increase in inflation of the prices of daily use commodities, the government has kicked off its subsidized ration program. The rationing program aims to reduce the price of the basic essential items for underprivileged families whose household income is less than Rs 31,000. According to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Dr Sania Nishtar, only one person from each household will be eligible to register in the Rashan Riayat Program. The government has requested the families/individuals to get registered on the Ehsaas registration portal and enlist themselves if they fulfil the criteria, i.e., a monthly income of less than Rs 31,000.

Under the program, grocery stores across the country will be selected to provide subsidized items to the families/individuals registered under the program. The selected grocery stores for this program will also receive a commission as an encouragement to serve their poor customers on a priority basis.

The Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Programme aims to reduce the impoverishing effects of inflation on the marginalized and underprivileged community of the country. In addition, the government aims to use up-to-date technology to avoid manipulation and corrupt practices that can reduce the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.
