Pakistan submits national action plan

During the review of Pakistan’s status on the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus scheme, Pakistan submitted an eight-point National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights (2021-26). Under the plan, Pakistan aims to develop a positive image for the country and help create a favourable review. The current GSP scheme would be replaced with a new arrangement that will come into effect in January 2024.

According to government officials, the 8-point action plan needs to be endorsed by all political stakeholders in the process as it will send the EU a signal of harmonious and inclusive decision making. Representatives of the Pakistan commerce ministry are participating in the review of Pakistan’s status in Brussels.

The National Action Plan for Businesses and Human Rights was developed by the Human Rights Ministry with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The policy document proposes an action plan for federal and provincial governments to create an environment conducive to business activities in the region. In addition, the plan also aims to inculcate a corporate environment that respects human rights.
