The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transport Project (BRT) has been nominated by the Sustainable Transport Award-2022 for its state-of-the-art rapid bus service. The award ceremony will be held on 9th February in Washington DC. The nominating party is the institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), a global organisation that promotes and develops different forms of environmentally sustainable mobility. It is an independent international forum that selects different cities every year based on sustainable transport projects. The projects are related to improving the mobility of citizens by reducing the economic, social, and environmental costs of transportation and increasing safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Peshawar BRT is currently providing transportation services to more than 150,000 commuters daily. The project was funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which is one of the largest international donor organisations in Pakistan. Today, the BRT project plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of the city. The nomination of the project on an international platform in competition with 31 nominees is a commendable achievement.
