The government has declared three tourist spots as integrated tourism zones in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to promote tourism in the region. The tourism zones include Ghanool in Mansehra, Mankyal in Swat, and Madaklasht in Lower Chitral. The process of land acquisition for concerned zones has also been started. The initiative will stabilise the local economy and generate employment opportunities for people.
Pakistan has vast tourist destinations that deliver various domestic and international travel opportunities. The country possesses some of the oldest civilisations globally, innumerable locations of scenic beauty, the world’s highest mountains, many religious and historical places, unique arts and crafts, and rich cultural heritage. The British Backpacker Society ranked Pakistan as the world’s top adventure travel destination in 2018, describing the country as “one of the friendliest countries on earth and mountain scenery that is beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.”
The present government has been passionate about development projects, as it would help portray the country’s soft image and generate revenue. Such initiatives will promote the country’s structural reforms, promote the tourism industry and boost economic development. The tourism industry can boost the economy’s revenue, create thousands of jobs, develop infrastructure, and create a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and locals. The total contribution of travel and tourism to Pakistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) was 5.7%. When the pandemic hit the world, its contribution decreased to 4.4%, cutting down many jobs. Currently, with some relaxation in restrictions of COVID-19, a huge stream of tourists is being witnessed in the country’s tourist spots that helped generate business activities and job opportunities for the locals in those areas.
