The government is planning to introduce artificial rain in Lahore to combat smog. Lahore consistently ranks among the worst cities in the world for air pollution due to poor air quality and high amount of pollution caused by vehicles and factories. The condition of smog is getting worse day by day, causing severe health problems like breathing issues. Artificial rain can help to reduce smog and prevent damages brought by hail and storms.

Artificial rain or cloud seeding is the process of rain making by shooting liquid carbon dioxide into rain clouds and causing them to rain. Also, spraying salt or dry ice can create artificial rain. This technique was invented by Vincent J. Schaefer.

Artificial rainmaking is an expensive technology that requires millions of dollars to create a few showers. The government is in talks with firms in Malaysia, China, and UAE to purchase the technology. Cloud seeding can prove to be a good source of increasing productivity in the agricultural sector. By artificial rain, farmers will not be dependent only on natural rain and can produce more through organic farming. This can boost the economy and provide proper food to the people.
