According to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), there has been a 24.3% rise in construction activities from last year’s April.
Due to this, there has been an increase in demand for cement all over the country, however, the production has not been affect only by the local markets but also the international market as well.
Overall, there has been a 19% growth in cement sales in the local market and for exports since last year. Interestingly, this year sales have even increased in the month of Ramadan during which construction activities usually slow down.
Currently, the APCMA’s concerns revolve around subsidization of electricity and coal costs which are a reason for high costs in cement construction. Hence, Pakistan’s cement industry can grow and bring in returns if cost of inputs are lowered.
