Pakistan has been dependent on non-renewable sources of energy as 46% of the energy comes from the burning of fossil fuels.

International organizations like the United Nations and the European Union are increasingly becoming conscious of the carbon footprint released by their energy sector. Different international treaties like the COP-21 are also emphasizing the use of carbon-conscious sources of energy for all industrial and transportation activities.

Pakistan has huge potential to derive its energy from renewable energy sources like wind and solar energy and become less dependent on carbon-intensive sources.
