A total of 26 developmental projects have been launched in the province of Punjab, worth billions of USD. These projects are in the areas of energy, transportation, tourism, health, urban development, climate change, disaster management, education, health, and social protection. Most of these projects are partially funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), China, Japan, United Kingdom, and Germany.
According to a recent meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee, these developmental projects will alleviate poverty and uplift the living standards of people in rural areas.
Some significant projects for the development of rural and urban areas include the Jalalpur irrigation project, Punjab intermediate cities improvement investment project, enhancing public-private partnerships in Punjab project, tourism growth project, installation of weather surveillance radar in Multan, and the agriculture and rural transformation program.
Under the Jalalpur irrigation project, the government aims to increase food security and yield productivity of basic agricultural goods. New irrigation canals (of 200 km) will be constructed in Pind Dadan Khan and Khushab, directly benefitting 200,000 people in rural areas. They protect the region from the impoverishing effects of food insecurity.
