Digital literacy is an important part of mainstream education. Globally, education systems have simplified digital literacy and its topics for students of all ages, from primary school to all the way up to the highest educational degrees.

The level of digital literacy is higher in developed countries of Western Europe, China, Japan, and North America in comparison to developing countries. Digital literacy is highly relevant to the development of modern world technologies as they are revolutionizing every area of socio-economic development.

In order to stay relevant to the fast-paced technologies, Pakistani students need to increase their digital literacy. Currently, the use of information and communication technology skills like programming, use of social media, communication applications like email and zoom is limited to a small population in the country.

The pandemic triggered widespread endorsement of online education as strict lockdown measures were enforced. Experts view the pandemic as the single largest factor which contributed to the adoption of online education platforms like zoom and Google meets. It also played a vital role in increasing the much scarce use of education and communication technology amongst the youth of Pakistan.
