To introduce electric vehicles in Pakistan, the ministry of climate change has allocated Rs 1.5 billion for different projects under the Green Stimulus initiative. The green stimulus package is a financial tool to help build sustainable and responsible economic growth under the government’s green agenda. Besides preserving nature, the government aims to spur an alternate green economy. This also includes adopting sustainable and greener modes of transportation like electric buses and other vehicles.
According to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam, the electric buses would be launched on the mass transit metro bus routes and a special route in the federal capital starting from Islamabad-zoo to Pir Sohawa, a tourist resort located 17 kilometres from Islamabad on top of Margalla hills.
Recently, Pakistan got its first electric vehicle policy to ensure safe, affordable, and emission-free transport for its citizens. The policy will play a facilitating role in mainstreaming electric vehicles in the country. In addition, the government continues to advocate for low tariffs on the environmental initiative and oppose taxes on electric vehicles.
