The European Union has planned to provide 250 million euros to Pakistan for assisting its clean energy transition and nature-based ecosystem solution project. This project will build Pakistan’s climate resilience through cost-effective ecosystem-based adaptation. The financial aid is part of the Prime Minister’s billion trees afforestation project to conserve existing forests and restore environmental conditions.

Nature-based solutions are involved with the environment to address societal changes and provide benefits for both human well-being and biodiversity. Pakistan is the only country that has implemented Nature-based solutions ahead of the entire world. The prevailing decade is critical for ecosystem restoration as all-natural habitats over the world are facing existential threats due to global warming and climate change. However, Pakistan has given priority to ecosystem restoration initiatives that focus on tangible solutions to reduce environmental degradation.

The incumbent government is taking steps to implement nature-based solutions for ecosystem restoration to benefit people and the planet. Pakistan has launched many projects including Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Plantation, Ecosystem Restoration Fund, and Protected area initiative for supporting nature-based solutions to climate change and creating green jobs. The global trust has increased as many countries have signed agreements on nature with Pakistan due to its commitment and practical implementations of nature through green solutions. Recently, Germany has announced to provide 150 million euros to support Pakistan’s nature-based solutions for ecosystem restoration. The Government of Pakistan is committed to playing a leadership role in addressing the issue of climate change and providing solutions for ecosystem restoration.
