The Government has approved two major road development projects, Dir Expressway, and Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway. The expressway will be constructed for Rs 33.5 billion with a 30 km long road from Chakdara to Rabat. With the construction of this expressway, the distance will be decreased to 27 km and will provide modern modes of traveling facilities to commuters. The expressway will have two tunnels, three interchanges, and four lanes. The Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway is a long 360 km road with an estimated cost of Rs 243 billion. It will have 19 interchanges, two tunnels, and six lanes. These projects have the utmost importance in the development of the province and will boost tourism, trade, and economic activity in the region.

Infrastructure is the backbone of the country’s economy, and a well-developed infrastructure can attract foreign investment as well as maintain a high growth rate. Developed and maintained highways and strategic roads provide a safe, modern, and efficient transportation system in the country. It has significant importance in the micro and macro economy and increases National integration through increasing the social and economic dependence between the provinces. Road networks carry 92 percent of passenger traffic in Pakistan. Over the past few years, there has been a gradual increase in the construction of high-type roads, including highways, motorways, underpasses, and flyovers. The transportation sector accounts for about 10.5 percent of the country’s GDP. A recent boost in spending on public infrastructure has positively affected social and human capital.
