The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, has approved Rs100 million for farmers of Balochistan under Prime Minister’s special initiative for Agricultural Transformation Plan. The approved fund will be used for the issuance of farmer cards, registration of farmers, and provision of certified seeds for increasing agricultural production under the proposed plan. The project aims to provide employment security to the farmers.

The Agricultural Transformation Plan is a revolutionary initiative that aims to take conventional agriculture to the levels of commercial agriculture. Under this plan, the Government will provide food security as well as fulfil the nutritional needs of every citizen of the country. Water conservation is included in the Government’s top agricultural reforms to adopt the best water management technologies across Pakistan.

The agricultural sector of Pakistan is considered an integral part of the economy. It contributes about 19% to the country’s GDP and absorbs 42% of the labour force of Pakistan. Despite so much importance, this sector faces a looming crisis that has slowed down its growth and performance. Farmers are considered a main asset for the agriculture sector. However, they face various issues, including lack of proper machinery, lack of modern agriculture technologies, low-quality seeds, and depleting water resources. Keeping in mind the significance of the sector, the incumbent Government is making efforts to enhance farmers’ financial inclusion which will help to boost agricultural yields.
