The Sindh government has started its first-ever Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) competitiveness strategy. The SME strategy will work for the agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors. The strategy focuses on building an enabling ecosystem for SMEs’ growth, innovation, and regional competitiveness.

The government of Sindh is actively focusing on developing SMEs as drivers of employment to provide a conducive business environment in the region. The provincial SME Competitiveness Strategy development is supported by the Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) and is funded by the European Union.

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) competitiveness strategy aims to uplift the business environment and serve as a key driver for established and emerging industries to be more competitive globally. The development of SMEs results in job creation and value creation in the region. It focuses on creating inclusive growth by enabling youth and women to be active in the workforce. Such a competitive strategy will develop a set of advantageous ecosystems to strengthen and modernise SMEs in Sindh. Currently, there are 1,000,000 SMEs in Sindh, and their contribution to the GDP is 30 percent. SMEs hold great potential in initiating domestic-led growth and reinforcing the economy’s strength. It also contributes to human resource development, value addition to the economy, and innovation.
