The government aims to increase the number of tourist locations across the country to reduce the saturation of tourists and over-tourism in existing spots like Murree. According to Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, the government plans to establish 10-15 new tourist locations to enhance the positive image of Pakistan’s tourism sector.
There exists a dire need for the development of new tourist locations across the country. The tourism sector of Pakistan can attract four times more foreign and domestic tourists. Besides this, it can also help Pakistan give off a positive image to the global community and the international tourism market. Increasing the number of local tourist destinations can also increase revenue and employment in the local economy.
Murree is one of the most popular and often-visited tourist locations in Pakistan. Recently, Murree received record-breaking snowfall, which led many tourists to be stuck. Several tourists died during the episode and forced the government to launch a wide-scale investigation into finding the problem that led to this situation and its possible solutions. Recently, the Murree administration and the local government were brought into intense scrutiny by the federal government after the recent tragedy.
