The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations international day dedicated to the cause of eliminating abuse of drugs and the illegal drug trade. The day is observed in the honor of Lin Zexu’s dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong which ended before the first opium war. This year, the theme for this international day is “Better Knowledge for Better Care” which emphasizes the need to disperse information like verified statistics and figures against the abuse of drugs in order to counter the impact of drug abuse on health, governance, and security.

In order to tackle the issue of drug abuse in Pakistan, the country has devised a legal and institutional mechanism to prevent drug supply and abuse. To reduce drug supply and demand and bring the country in line with its zero-tolerance policy towards poppy cultivation, the law enforcement of the country has dedicated different institutions to the cause.

In light of this day, Graana.com has partnered up with the UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to raise awareness on this day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking by organizing a cycling rally in Islamabad
