To promote non-motorised transport in the capital city, the Islamabad Master Plan Commission and Capital Development Authority (CDA) have approved a smart traffic management plan. The traffic management plan includes non-motorized vehicles like bicycles and pedestrians.
Under the plan, the walkways will be completed, crossings along the highways will be marked, and the elimination of encroachments from roadsides. The roadsides will also be marked for road signs and pedestrians on all highways. A PC-2 of the project is yet to be completed and approved by the planning commission. CDA plans to hire a professional consultant for smart traffic management systems.
The administration encourages using carpool and public transport services under its smart traffic management system to reduce traffic in the twin cities. Furthermore, to mitigate congestion in certain commercial and other busy areas of the city, the administration proposed a plan to build parking plazas at six different locations in the city. Two of these parking plazas will be constricted in Blue Area, while four will be built in F-8, F-10, G-9, and I-8 Markaz. The sites for their construction have been allotted.
