The Government’s vision for a green Pakistan has started under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project. 300 Miyawaki forests will be planted in Karachi with the technical support of the NED University of Engineering and Technology. Miyawaki is a Japanese technology that involves planting more trees in less space. The method uses specialized land preparation and indigenous varieties with varying growth rates to produce fast-growing urban forests. Miyawaki forest will absorb carbon emissions which will considerably reduce the impact of emissions on the environment.

Government plans to plant sustainable forests to correct the degraded environment and climate change of Karachi. The first miyawaki forest was planted at the Metropole Hotel and the second at the Boat Basin. Two years ago, many people died due to too much heat in the city. The miyawaki forests will help to reduce the rising temperature and avoid the effects of global warming.

Climate change is impacting agriculture and threatening national and global food systems. A country’s economy is also affected by climate change. It leads to low crop yield, increases the frequency of floods and droughts. A Miyawaki forest is an opportunity to take part in enhancing agricultural productivity and ecosystem restoration.
