Preparations are in progress to initiate the Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Mor to the new Islamabad International Airport. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) hopes to start the service from March 2022. In 2020-2021, the government allocated Rs 300 million for this project. Moreover, CDA’s Chairman planned to construct a bus depot at Peshawar Mor and planned to run different routes in the future. The idea of using one depot for all buses is to avoid redundant investing in different depots. Besides establishing a traffic control room, a smart traffic management system will also be introduced to check violations of traffic rules and overlook local transport.
The project is being completed to provide modern public transport to the citizens. The National Highway Authority laid the infrastructure of the metro bus service from Peshawar Mor to Islamabad International Airport in March last year. It will also establish security and surveillance systems along the route. A “Capital Mass Transit Authority” will be set up to supervise the buses’ management with full control given to CDA.
The Peshawar Mor Central Station will function as the designated pick-up point. A shuttle bus service will also operate from three different points in Islamabad to this central station. Thirty metro buses will run daily from 7 am to 11 pm with Rs 30 per passenger. The time frame of this daily route is predicted to increase. Once started, the route from Peshawar mor to the new airport would benefit millions daily. The service will provide an affordable and comfortable ride to all commuters travelling from the airport and solve the overloading problems of public transport.
