Recently, the federal cabinet has approved the National Cyber Security Policy, 2021, allowing the establishment of a national cybersecurity response framework under the Cyber Governance Policy Committee. The National Cyber Security policy aims to counter the incidents related to malicious use of information and communication technologies that can act as a financial, social or security threat to Pakistan.

Currently, Pakistan is ranked the seventh-worst cyber-secure state globally by the 2018 Global Security Index Report. This shows that the country is not in a strong position to deal with any threat in the digital domain. Therefore, introducing a National Cyber Security policy will help improve the state of national security in cyberspace.

Under the newly approved policy, any cyberattack on any institution will be considered an act of aggression against national sovereignty, and steps will be taken against the aggressor. The policy is set to be implemented on the national level, and the committee will execute its various functions according to the policy.
