Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the Naya Pakistan Health Card scheme to provide health insurance of Rs 1 million to every family in Punjab. The Sehat Card aims to provide free medical treatment worth Rs 1 million a year at both government and private hospitals. Difficulties faced by several families for medical treatment prompted the government to take initiative to provide a universal health insurance facility for the whole population. The primary goal of the Sehat Card programme is to improve the health status of the targeted population through increasing access to quality health services and to reduce poverty through the reduction of out-of-pocket payments for health expenditures in Punjab.

The incumbent government has introduced many welfare programmes for the people. Last year, the Prime Minister (PM) introduced the Sehat Card Plus Programme for the citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under the programme, more than 7.2 million families of KP are getting free inpatient healthcare services. Recently, the PM also announced the Ehsaas Food subsidy scheme to provide a 30% discount on essential food items, giving relief to 130 million middle-income families. Besides this, the Kamyab Pakistan scheme was also started under which 2 million eligible families can receive Rs2.7 million house loans. The government is trying hard to provide a respectable living to the financially underserved and middle-income families. The Government is making efforts to expand welfare spending to address unemployment and poverty, disbursing 179 billion rupees ($1.06bn) in grants to low-income families.
