Pakistan’s parliament approved amendments to the election laws, including electronic voting and voting rights to the overseas Pakistanis using electronic voting machines (EVMs). The electronic voting system is an attempt to conduct a free and fair election in the country. The EVS allows overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes while staying in the countries of their residence.

Electronic voting machines would help in vote counting, making the whole concept seamless and transparent. The EVM would eliminate the chances of rigging as it could not be bugged or hacked. EVM ensures the principle of one person, one vote. With the EVM, instead of issuing a ballot paper, the polling officer will press the Ballot Button that enables the voter to cast their vote.

EVS is an attempt to alleviate rigging in the country that causes political instability which also affects economic growth. It also further diminishes the country’s economic growth and development as it will disrupt the continuation of the economic policies. It will discourage foreign investment and working in industries and businesses.
