Pakistan and Germany share commendable bilateral ties as the two countries have embarked upon different projects that aim to create sustainable development in the country. According to the Federal Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar, cooperation between Pakistan and Germany has grown in the energy sector. The two countries have signed the implementation agreement for GIZ Pakistan’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency-II (REEE-II) project worth 8.1 million euros.

The project is part of Pakistan’s effort towards a transition to the use of renewable sources of energy. The Council of Common Interests (CCI) approved the new Renewable Energy policy that aims to shift all power generation sources to renewable sources of energy. Currently, renewable energy constitutes 6% of the total energy mix. The policy aims to increase this from 6% to 20% by 2025 and 30% by 2030.
