Logistics and communication through various means of transport are crucial to integrate the economy in the region and has a direct impact on economies of scale in the market. The logistics performance index evaluates several factors of the country’s logistics and transportation, including timeliness, logistics service quality, ease of international shipment, tracing and tracking, infrastructure, and customs. The index collects data from several international sources like the World Bank for every member country. Pakistan ranks 122nd out of 167 countries. Neighbouring India stands at 44th and Bangladesh at 100th.

To increase its regional trade efficiency and the speed and quality of its logistics, the ministry of communication introduced the National Freight and Logistics Policy (NFLP). The policy aims to ensure the transportation of goods on the domestic and international front at competitive rates. Introducing and implementing a national policy will help revive the logistics sector, which needs modernisation.

The NFLP also aims to improve Pakistan’s performance on the Ease of Doing Business Index (EODB) as the policy will enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the country’s business landscape. An improved freight and logistics system will help meet the demand for goods transport and associated supply chains at competitive prices.
