Pakistan has decided to allow a permanent residency scheme for foreign nationals investing in the country, a move to mitigate the financial woes.

During a recent meeting of the Afghanistan Inter-ministerial Coordination Cell (AICC), the Board of Investors (BoI) chairman presented granting citizenship to Afghan investors to attract investments from Afghanistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan rejected the idea of granting Pakistani citizenship to investors from Afghanistan alone and declared that such a policy should not be limited to any single country.

The development is in line with the new National Security Policy. Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the public version of the country’s first-ever National Security Policy 2022-2026.

The main themes of the National Security Policy are national cohesion, securing an economic future, defence and territorial integrity, internal security, foreign policy in a changing world and human security.

In line with the new National Security Policy, the Government has decided to allow permanent residency schemes for foreign nationals. The new policy allows foreigners to get permanent resident status instead of investment.
