To increase awareness amongst local tourists and travellers regarding responsible and sustainable tourism practices, the government announced the site of Pakistan’s first eco-tourism village. The village is located in Kaghan Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a few kilometres off the Monroe Trail. Eco-tourism involves responsible travel to natural areas, conserving the environment, and improving the wellbeing of the local people. The launch of this eco-friendly tourist destination in Pakistan marks the government’s consideration towards environment-friendly and sustainable tourism practices.

According to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam, the village will be the first tourist destination implementing the zero-waste road map. It will also help open avenues for the promotion of eco-tourism and attract the private sector to take part in similar initiatives.

The successful launch of this eco-friendly tourism village will increase awareness amongst local travellers and tourists regarding the importance of responsible tourist practices. The eco-friendly location in the remote village of Kaghan Valley also aims to protect the local population of snow leopards and other wildlife species in the region.
