Despite receiving major water sources, Pakistan falls amongst the top 10 countries which has the lowest access to clean water. Out of the total population of 207 million, 21 million people do not have access to clean water. According to a report by UN-HABITAT on the value of sustainable urbanization, 85% of Pakistanis have access to clean water. The distribution of water as a resource is also on an equitable basis as clean water sources are available near high-income and more affluent societies.

A clean water source is an important factor for creating a habitable society. To create a society that is sustainable, an adequate amount of water supply is important for development. With the increasing risk of climate change perpetuated by rapid industrialization and urbanization, are quickly becoming major threats towards freshwater sources.
