Recently, the president of Pakistan inaugurated the Roshan Apna Ghar Scheme in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He expressed hope that the Non-resident Pakistanis (NRPs) will now buy a house from the comfort of their homes, without the need to visit Pakistan.
The launch of the RAG was alongside a property exhibition for the UAE based NRPs. Several stakeholders were on board, including builders and developers from UAE and Pakistan, senior officials from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of commercial banks, and a large number of Pakistanis and UAE based associations.

President Dr Arif Alvi highlighted that UAE hosts the largest Pakistani diaspora as it is an important destination for Pakistani workers and immigrants. These overseas Pakistanis are a key human resource for Pakistan’s economy. Moreover, with active support from the SBP, the NRPs have a unique opportunity to buy a residential property in Pakistan that would have been otherwise difficult to purchase. The end-to-end digital process makes it possible for NRPs to send remittances and payments efficiently and effectively.
