The Punjab government has retrieved 180,581 acres of illegally occupied land, worth Rs 462.52 billion. Under a policy implemented in 2019, the Punjab government embarked upon the process of retrieving illegally occupied state land. As a result of the policy, an unbiased operation against illegal occupants was carried out by the Punjab government. During the process of evacuation, the Punjab government found several influential people in possession of illegally occupied land.

According to the Additional Director General PDMA Tariq Masood, the provincial government is retrieving lands from illegal occupants for the larger public good. The retrieved land will be allotted to hospitals, schools, colleges, and other public service delivery institutes. He also claimed that any retrieved land that could be best used for public service will not be handed to private persons, besides the ones that are out of reach.
