The Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar has announced several road development projects worth billions of rupees for Lahore. The road projects consist of the construction and expansion of roads, motorways, flyovers, bridges, and underpasses. These projects will decrease traffic congestion and save millions of rupees annually on account of fuel wasted during traffic congestion.

These development projects include a full-height three-lane Gulab Devi underpass worth about Rs60 million which will ease the traffic congestion and movement of over 132,000 vehicles. An elevated expressway from Gulberg to Lahore-Islamabad Motorway with an estimated cost of Rs600 million is also a part of these development projects. The Shahdara mor road project worth about Rs650 million will be constructed to provide multi-level entry and exit points at the main entrance of the city. Furthermore, Data Ganj Bakhsh Flyover, Shahkam Chowk Flyover, the expansion of Sagan Road, and an underpass and flyover at Karim Block are also included in these projects.

The present government had also completed several incomplete projects of the previous government, including Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), the Abdul Sattar Edhi Underpass, Lal Shehbaz Qalandar Underpass and Bab-e-Lahore. The development in road projects will help to improve the livability of cities and will boost economic and regional trade activities. The transportation sector contributes about 10.5 per cent to the country’s GDP. A recent rise in spending on public infrastructure has positively affected social and human capital.
