As per Pakistan’s Green vision, an initiative called the ‘Billion Tree Honey Initiative’ was launched by the Ministry of Climate Change in December 2020. The honey produced by these trees will create an export market worth Rs. 40 billion. Furthermore, the programme is expected to produce 70,000 metric tonnes of honey in a year.

This initiative will create green jobs for the expansion of forests and sustainable enhancement of export revenues. The jobs will benefit the local population near the forests. The National Bank and the National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (NAVTEC) are partnering to train beekeepers for meeting international quality standards. The core purpose is to ensure properly branded and impressionable honey supply to international markets. Furthermore, the Ministry of Science and Technology is setting up honey laboratories across the country.

The success of the Billion Tree Honey project can make Pakistan a leading player in the international honey export market which will be a positive contribution to the country’s economy.
