To attract tourists and generate economic activities in different regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a Malaysian international firm has presented a master plan for the development of four tourism zones in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Malaysian firm AJM Planning and Urban Design Group (APUDG) has a global reputation and works to international standards. According to its Managing Director, the master plans for tourism zones in Mankai, Swat, Thandiani in Abbottabad, Ganol in Mansehra, and Madaklasht in lower Chitral, are complete.

The master plan includes the blueprint for the design, management, infrastructure development, and construction of roads and railway tracks to facilitate tourism in the region. Besides the tourism department, officials from the KP sports, archaeology, museum, culture and youth affairs department and other stakeholders were included in the consultation process.

The master plan entails the construction of a 428-room hotel and a resort for tourists in Thandiani, a 218-room hotel in the Ganol tourism zone, a 71-room hotel facility in Mankial, Swat, and a 382-room hotel and resort in the tourism zone of Lower Chitral. Apart from the construction of the given resorts and rooms, several side projects will also be implemented to facilitate tourism in the region.
