FBR is launching a track and trace system intending to digitize the economy and curb counterfeiting. The system will also monitor revenue generation, improve tax collection, reduce tax evasion, and prevent the smuggling of goods. The system will be implemented for the cement, sugar, fertilizers, and beverages industries.  The track and trace system monitors all stages of the supply chain, from production to the end-user consumption.

The government had already implemented the track and trace system in the tobacco sector. A track and trace system is an essential component to reduce the illicit trade of products. This system enables the government to control all production lines with real-time secured data transmission. Tracking and tracing also complement public health campaigns to discourage smoking, especially among children, by ensuring that cigarettes become less affordable.

FBR is now planning to implement the track and trace system in the sugar sector to increase revenues, promote transparency, and maximize tax compliance in Pakistan. FBR is also planning to cover the beverages and petroleum sector in the system.
