The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has launched a water project worth $4.4 million in Pakistan. The UNOPS is all set to support Pakistan to provide easy access to safe drinking water and improve the quality of life of the people. The organisation will also help the government achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project is being funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to address the issue of water quality by providing essential testing equipment and upgrading laboratories in Pakistan. The Korean government is committed to supporting Pakistan in different sectors, especially in the water sector, to improve the water quality and help achieve targets set under the SDGs.

Access to adequate and safe drinking water is a human right and monitoring the quality of drinking water is the first step toward its management. Around 22 million people still live without access to clean and safe water in Pakistan. The project will provide access to safe drinking water and improve its quality. The current government is also trying to tackle the health and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issue through the ‘Clean Green Pakistan Initiative’. The project is meaningful in improving water management in Pakistan. It supports SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) and SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) and is linked with the government’s ‘Vision 2025’ and the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework for Pakistan 2018-2022.
