In South Asia, the average vaccination rate is higher compared to that of Pakistan. India’s vaccination rate standing at 11% and Bangladesh at 3.6% makes Pakistan’s vaccination rate of 2.5% a slow work in progress.
This is due to the vaccine’s limited availability, administrative bottlenecks in rolling them out, and widespread negative public opinion against them. Despite the challenges, Pakistan started its vaccination drive by prioritizing health workers and the older age groups so that the population most vulnerable to COVID-19 can be secured.
Up till now Sinopharm and Sputnik have successfully made it into the country’s healthcare market, whereas other brands are gradually making their way to the market.
