The government announced Rs3 million Flood relief workers in Balochistan

The flood caused massive displacement and damage across the country. Currently, sixty-six districts have been officially declared to be ‘calamity hit’ by the Government of Pakistan, 31 in Balochistan, 23 in Sindh, nine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and three in Punjab. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), around 218,000 houses have been destroyed, and more than 793,900 livestock and around 2 million acres of crops and orchards have also been impacted. In addition, several roads and bridges have been damaged in various remote areas and lost communication with the main cities. The destruction of roads has disrupted traffic leaving around 6,000 people stranded on both sides.

Balochistan has been badly affected by the flood and lost connections to other provinces due to the collapse of several important bridges. During this catastrophe, law enforcement jawaan, relief workers, and other authorities came together and worked to reconstruct and rehabilitate the damaged roads and bridges. The citizens of affected areas have also started rehabilitation of their homes on an urgent basis. Recently, the damaged Bibi Nani Bridge in Kachhi District Balochistan has been restored by relief workers. The Bibi Nani bridge is 106 km long and is one of the significant bridges of Quetta that connects it with Sukkur. However, its destruction has affected a large number of commuters.

Considering the efforts of relief workers, the Government of Pakistan has announced Rs 3 million as prize money for the labours who restored the Bibi Nani bridge in Balochistan. Besides this, the provincial government has announced that additional Rs 2 million will be given to the flood relief workers. In addition, Rs1 million has also been announced for the staff that was working on the restoration of gas pipelines. Apart from concerned authorities, civil workers have also played a major role in the restoration and rehabilitation of damaged areas.
