The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved five development schemes for various sectors, especially the educational sector with an estimated cost of Rs.25,500 million. The development schemes also include the construction of the Sorra dam, national parks, wetlands, ecotourism sites and safari parks. These schemes aim to strengthen the capabilities of local institutions and promote community self-reliance through sustainable strategies.
The development schemes were approved in the 69th meeting of PDWP of the current fiscal year 2021-22 presided over by Chairman Planning & Development Board Abdullah Khan Sumbal.
The approved schemes will work for the development of several universities including the Establishment of Nawaz Sharif Medical College, the University of Gujrat, and the uplifting of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed (DHQ) as a teaching hospital. These initiatives will act as a leading step towards the commitment of the government to promote education and literacy in the country. In this regard, these development schemes will provide the vision to suggest strategies to increase literacy rate, capacity building, and enhance facilities in educational institutions. Education services in Pakistan were severely affected by economic, political and security challenges that the country has been facing for some years. There is also a need for the implementation of national education policy and vision 2030 education goals. The reforms are required in the education system of Pakistan to pull out the majority of the country’s population from illiteracy.
