The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to hold a competition for giving direct contracts for the Kutchery Chowk remodelling project. The authority has asked for bids from the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and the National Logistics Cell (NLC). The total cost of the project is about Rs 4.99 billion. The two organisations will participate in the direct contracting of the project on April 7 and will submit their financial bids.

According to the RDA Chairman, the project’s contract will be given as per PPRA Rules 59(e). As per the rule, the organisation will be under the administrative control of the government and cannot share information about the project with the private sector.

The government will give the contract to the organisation that should have an average annual construction turnover of Rs 5 billion and a minimum net working capital of Rs 6 billion during the financial year 2020-21 and at least two yearly audit reports in the last ten years. The construction work includes a two-storey flyover, the first of its kind in the country, and a signal-free main square where more than 300,000 vehicles will pass through this road easily. The project’s design has been prepared in a modern style to ease the traffic flow. Two-lane underpasses have also been designed for Rawat to Saddar and Airport to Saddar under the Kutchery Chowk remodelling project.
