World Bicycle Day

World Bicycle Day is celebrated around the world to draw attention to the numerous health, environmental, and cost benefits of cycling. Bicycling is an affordable, clean, environmentally conscious, and healthy option for transportation. Cycling contributes net zero to the global carbon emissions, something on which other means of transportation perform poorly.

Bicycling as a mode of transportation is the most sustainable option as it promotes economic growth, reduces inequality in the sector, and at the same time, deals efficiently with climate change. Such a transportation model is critical to the achievement of sustainable development goals. This day also emphasizes the need to redesign the existing transportation infrastructure to be more inclusive of cyclists.

Traditionally large vehicles like trucks, heavy trollies, and other cars dominate the transportation infrastructure. To protect the rights of cyclists and other small vehicles it is important to redesign the existing infrastructure and set boundaries that can help create a more inclusive and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
