The growing global warming and climate change make the planet warm and the environment polluted. The increasing urbanisation and non-renewable energy resources such as coal, oil, and natural gas are also the major causes of environmental issues. To address these issues, a viable alternative to fossil fuels is needed. The utilisation of green energy will play a key role in this regard as it works on green, long-term, and low-cost energy resources. Over the years, green energy has made significant progress by increasing a country’s long term strategic energy planning process. It refers to all renewable energy resources such as sun, wind, hydropower, geothermal energy and biofuels, such as biodiesel, bioethanol, biohydrogen, bio-oil and biogas, contributing to environmental productivity and sustainability.

The United States (US) announced a four-year $23.5 million project in Pakistan to bring efficiency to the power sector and promote green energy. The project aims to address the climate change issues and increase the share of green energy in Pakistan’s energy mix. It will improve the managerial operations of power transmission and distribution systems by increasing the financial viability, reliability, and affordability of Pakistan’s power system. It will also enhance the private sector participation openly and transparently and support shared energy reform goals. It will build a clean, efficient, and reliable electricity generation sector to support the transition to a truly competitive wholesale power market.
